Are You Adapting?

What Is Adaptation?

Have you ever coughed or sneezed? Did you ever have a fever? Do you sweat when hot? Shiver when cold? Do you get out of breath after you run? Do you get hungry? Thirsty? Do you run from danger?

 

What Are These Questions About?

Adaptation. Adaptation is your ability to respond to changes in the environment physically and mentally, internally, and externally to maintain your balance or homeostasis (a word coined by the great American Physiologist Walter Cannon. (1))

Adaptation is terribly complex and can involve all your organ systems. Therefore, it is of supreme importance. Your ability or inability to adapt can make the difference between health and sickness, even life and death.

Some of the ways you adapt are by ridding your body of toxins (coughing, sneezing, fever) other ways you adapt is by utilizing oxygen and food for energy, digestion, ridding your body of wastes, and hundreds if not thousands of other day-to-day functions you probably don’t think about. You don’t have to. Your body’s wisdom takes care of your many needs. Simply put, the better you can adapt to change, the better off you are in every aspect of your life.

What Are Your Resolutions?


This is the time of the year many of us set and forget resolutions we made to improve ourselves.  More exercise?  Meditation/, Lose weight?

A fascinating way to get rid of a bad habit is not to try to change it: just observe it.  You might find this amazing, but just observing a bad habit without judgment can be very healing.

The key is not to judge yourself!  Accept yourself and love yourself, and you’ll tap into healing potential.  Be good to yourself.  You are human and have weaknesses and strengths.  Accept yourself.  You were put on this earth for a reason even if you don’t know why,

Is it really possible to change a habit?  According to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, it takes 18 to 254 days for a person to form a new habit.  So be patient with yourself. (1)  Accept yourself as you are, and you’ll release lots of energy and have more and more healing.

The great thing is that you can start right now!  A little self-acceptance and compassion go a long, long way.
