Chiropractic Discovery


We say “modern chiropractic” because spinal care is thousands of years old and found in cultures all over the world. But this natural, drug-free, powerful, and yet safe healing art was, as often happens, lost amidst the sands of time. Unfortunately, humankind then became infatuated with drugs, chemicals, and surgery.

Spinal care was rediscovered in 1895 by Dr. Daniel David Palmer, who practiced in Davenport, Iowa. DD Palmer was a magnetic healer (energy healer), scientist, and researcher who “accidentally” restored a man’s deafness by adjusting his spine. This discovery was the seed from which modern chiropractic grew.

This newspaper ad, “Are You Sick and Disheartened,” was one of a series of broadsides from the turn of the century. Dr. Palmer describes his old/new discovery and invites the public to discover this amazing drug-free, natural, safe, and powerful healing art, science, and philosophy for themselves. The list of people suffering from nearly every condition who benefitted from his “hand ministrations” (his original name for chiropractic) was impressive. Many traveled far and wide to experience and benefit from DD Palmer’s discovery.

Dr. Palmer opened a school to teach others; soon, his students spread to all parts of the US, Canada, Europe, and beyond. This made-in-America healing art has brought relief, health, and healing to millions of people, from infants to the elderly and everyone in between.

What Is Chiropractic?

Get Some Sun


The Benefits of Sunlight

Want better sleep and a better mood? Get some sun. What is more natural than sunlight? When the sun is out, try to get as much of it as you can. Go for a walk (especially with friends). Numerous studies show that sunlight is good for your natural circadian rhythm, so you’ll feel sleepier at night and feel more awake during the day.

All energy on earth (except for volcanoes) is from the sun. All life on the surface of our planet depends on sunlight. A new study has found that getting enough natural sunlight each day could help reduce insomnia and improve mood. This study was published in the Journal of Affective Disorders and involved over 400,000 people.

The coauthor Sean Cain writes: “In this study, we observed that the greater time spent in outdoor light during the day was associated with fewer depressive symptoms, lower odds of using antidepressant medication, better sleep, and fewer symptoms of insomnia.”

Greater time in outdoor light was also associated with lowered odds of lifetime major depressive disorder and better outcomes across a range of mood and sleep measures. Additionally, too much light at night throws off your circadian (day-night) rhythm. So stop staring at artificial screens late at night. (1)

Is That A Snake Down Their Back?

We often like to show you the picture of the woman on the right.

People have asked, “Is that a snake on their back?” “No, it’s their spinal column (backbone),” we say. We’ve also been asked, “What’s with the chiropractic fascination with the spine?” “How does the back make me sick?” “How does the chiropractor working on my back make me healthy?”

Good questions. Let’s answer them:

Your brain controls your body. How? Your brain has a marvelous communication system—the nervous system. Billions of nerves leave the brain in a bundle known as the spinal cord and travel down your spine, where millions of nerves from the spinal cord branch off between your spinal bones. For you to be healthy, your spinal bones (vertebrae) must be in a healthy alignment, or your nerves can become compressed and irritated, which will cause a lack of proper communication between your brain and your body.

Worried About Germs?

 
With bad news all around us, how can we keep our
bodies in tip-top shape? Should we fear germs? Do this:

Take a deep breath. You just breathed in millions of germs. You really did. But don’t be scared. We are all covered, inside and out, with billions upon billions of germs: bacteria, viri, fungi etc., etc., etc. All the time. Yet 99.99999% of the time, you’re not sick. Why? Because germs don’t make you sick.

When you are sick, you make germs. Germs only grow in a stressed, malnourished, toxic body. Germs cannot take hold in a well-functioning body. How do you ensure proper function?

Visit your chiropractor! When your body is free of subluxations, it functions at closer to 100%. You digest and absorb food better, you have less stress, and you detoxify more effectively. Come in for chiropractic care for the best protection against germs, and bring your kids and grandparents in too!
